We’re ready for 2017.

The inevitable end of year post. We bet that every post on social media today is about the year 2016 for them, and yes, including this post!

Reflecting our 2016, we’ve experienced many ups and downs. We were grateful for our ups and we’re certainly even more grateful for our downs. We’d like to think that we wouldn’t had our up moments if we didn’t get to experience our down moments (easier said than done, but we tried our best!)

We hope, we will be ready for everything that 2017 will throw to us and our mantra for 2017 and the years ahead is summed up by this picture below.

Bye Bye Hotel, Hello Airbnb

villa-3

who needs all you can eat breakfast if you can eat from this awesome plate! (ALSO VEGEMITE FOR THE WIN!)

Part of having holiday that we enjoy the most (aside from making the itinerary) is picking the place to stay. For us, having a real nice place as a temporary abode during our journey is right there on the top of our priority list during travel. The reasons are, one is due to the fact  we always bring our kid and two is because its nice to have a comfortable place to lazying around at the end of the day after our all day trip.

(In the mood for) HOLIDAY

Lately we have been feeling a bit stressed out and had too much of our day to day life. haha we know – first world problem. Our last real holiday was Japan on Sept 2015 (IT WAS A BLAST) so approaching the end of 2016, We are in dire need of some kind of holiday or mini break from reality. The thing is, at the moment We are in a money saving mode, therefore going overseas is out of the question (IT WAS A HARD DECISION, BUT IN THE END OUR SAVINGS ACCOUNT SAYS NO). Of all domestic destinations, We were always want to go back to Bali because the last time we went there were during our honeymoon in 2012 (OMG 4 YEARS ALREADY) and also because our lil munchkin is somehow loves the beach (or he loves the idea of a beach and sands). Long story short, turns out my sister – who’s pregnant – also wants to go to Bali. Soooo, we ponder the idea that we tag along while we also have some maternity photo session for my sister. Luckily she said yes! So along we go to BALI!

We’ll be posting places, food (oh glorious food) and also the airbnb we stayed (WHICH WERE SO CUTE OMG CANNOT EVEN CONTAIN THE CUTENESS OVERLOAD!).

So yeah, If we’re not lazy the next post will be in about 2 days. hahaha the suspense!

Another Start Over

Yupe, just as I said on previous post. I changed the name again. Sooo typical and predictable of aquarian me. Hopefully this one sticks tho!

A little background of the new name: little family literally meaning my husband, myself and our 3 y.o. little munchkin. And we, by chance, lives in the big city – Jakarta. no surprises there right? just simple and to the point title which we hope represent the stories and musing and blabbing in this blog.

Also, as I write this post, this song has been on repeat for a good half an hour.

Take all your chances while you can
You never know when they’ll pass you by
Like a sum the mathematician cannot solve
Like me trying my hardest to explain

its an old song by a band that used to be one of my favourite, Athlete, and the song is called Chances. I think its quite fitting to the situation for me and my family now.

Reaching the end of 2016, I feel like our little family has been given a chance to start an exciting and wonderful journey ahead. Therefore we hope we can share some of that journey in this blog.

Starting over. hopefully to move forward and the better.

writer’s block

i really need to start writing again. i already have the urge but could never found the motivation! blegghhhh.

first off, i think i might change the blog name (AGAIN!) and maybe… maybe i will make this blog into a more picture heavy blog kinda thingy. but for now, let me just post this and contemplating whether i should change the blog theme for like the millionth time and thus change the name again.. although i kinda like the name -has kid will travel – but the thing is we are now RARELY travel so how are we gonna post about travel if we never do it? so yeah, decision decision.

Embracing the slow life at Lodges Ekologika

To be honest, Lodges Ekologika has been on my bucket list for quite some time. I’ve been meaning to go there with my family since the first time I stumble upon this place on the internet, many many moons ago. But because of one reason and another, we’ve only been able to finally come to this place recently.

The route to go there:

We went just after 7am on Saturday from our home in South Jakarta, from there we took the Jagorawi toll road and exit at Kebon Raya Bogor. The traffic was quite decent, considering its weekend time. From Bogor, we follow routes that was given on the Lodges Ekologika website. It was quite a trip, due to the road was sometimes can be a bit narrow and many trucks passing us by. It will be quite unnerving if you’re not used to these kind of road trip. What surprised us more was the last leg of the trip was actually a little bit of an offload track. We thought we went the wrong way and got lost in the middle of what looks like a mix of jungle and rice terrace. But then, we saw an intersection and we took a  wild guess and just turn left and WE ARRIVED AT PORTIBI FARMS! it took us about roughly almost 3hrs driving time from Jakarta with decent – only a slight traffic congestion on Jagorawi toll road.

The place:

When we arrive at Portibi Farms, we were greeted by Jocean the owner. He quickly introduced himself to us and welcomed us to his place. The place itself was really, I mean, really really beautiful. We already saw the picture for the place from the website, but really, picture don’t do justice of how surreal and magical the place looks like. Its a mix of javanese, rustic and vintage architecture. That, combine with the lush greenery and the sound of the nature surrounding this lovely place makes Portico Farm such an oasis for big city dwellers. From the moment we step out of the car, everything feels so serene and peaceful. To think that this place is just a mere 3 hours driving away from the big city Jakarta.

The lodge:

After we finish gawking at everything, Jocean kindly suggested that perhaps we should rest for a bit while waiting for lunch to be ready at our lodge, Limas Gede. We weren’t that tired but more of a curious of how our lodge going to look like, especially after we saw how gorgeous the lobby, the dining area and even the kitchen. It was quite a walk from the main building to our lodge, the path is covered with bed of grass and surrounded by tall trees makes you think that we’re going to camping in the middle of a jungle. From the website, it says that our lodge is approx 160 steps from the main building, quite an exercise. When we arrived at our lodge, Limas Gede, we were simply stunned at how breathtaking the building is. Gorgeous is not even enough to describe the Limas Gede, and that’s just from the outside. Can you imagine, a proper joglo, in the middle of a jungle? is there anything much more grande than that image? for me, it’s my ultimate bucket list.

Once we stepped inside, wow just wow. Limas Gede is designed for family, so the space was huge with one king size bed and one queen size bed. the bathroom is outdoor (!!!) with hot water rain shower, I am always and will always be obsessed with outdoor bathroom so I was squealing with delight when I saw that. Don’t expect any television or even power outlet, portibi farms is an eco lodge and their lodging is solar powered. I found that this is not such a big issues, why do you want to stay inside and watch tv while you have such an exciting place to be explored?

The food:

First and foremost, at Portibi Farms is not just about staying at their beautiful lodging with beautiful surrounding, its mostly about the back to nature experience including but not limited to the food prepared by Jocean and his wife. Our meal time at Portibi Farms is signalled by the sound of a Javanese gong. It was really unique feeling hearing the sound of a gong in the middle of nowhere. We quickly walked our way up to the main building where the dining room located.

During dinner, we were listening to the story of how Portibi Farms founded and made. Basically, Jocean and his wife loves to travel and loves eating nice food, bonus point they also loves to cook. Portibi Farm and lodges ekologika were born because of that reasons. They has travel the world, sometimes can stay for a longer period of time, just to eat the local taste and bring back to their kitchen to have their own version of the food. No wonder, the food taste so unique and unlike anything we ever taste. The food at Portibi Farms were made from the freshest ingredients, mostly from their own farm. It was beautiful, everything taste so fresh so healthy, such a gastronomical feat.

The people:

Do you ever get the feeling that when you’re on vacation, you feel like you want to meet with new and interesting people from around the world telling you their memorable travel stories, inspiring you and everything. well, at Portibi Farms, you can! Aside from Jocean and his lovely wife and their sweet children, we get to meet the people who stays there as well. Meeting with these people, confirmed what we already know since long time ago, that we were by far the most uninteresting people who lead a boring life! No, seriously, these people has travel the world far and wide (one couple is travelling with their young children) and bring back their interesting stories to the dinner table. It was such an inspiring dining session, we would want to stay up all night and chat with them until the early hours if we weren’t so beat.
